Name: Zamioculcas zamiifolia "ZZ plant" Description: The ZZ is a relatively new introduction to the world of indoor landscapes. A stout evergreen that ranges in size from a 6" diameter pot approximately 1’ tall to larger floor plants that top out about 3’ in height. As the stems elongate, they tend to droop in a graceful way. The small leaves and thick stems are succulent. We allow the ZZs under our care to dry thoroughly between watering, since the foliage and underground rhizomes store moisture. This is a slow growing plant. New stems rise from the rhizomes to form very dense specimens in ideal conditions. Although we’ve placed the ZZ in our low light plant gallery, ZZ plants thrive in medium and higher light locations. They will tolerate low light situations of about 75+ foot candles but tend to thin out and decline in inadequate illumination. |
